Banpu Site achieves first top Operations Excellence AwardBanpu Lampang Open Cut Coal Mine in Thailand was awarded Level 5 of the
5 Level Milestone TPM3 Excellence Award at the TPM
3 - Australasian Lean Forum 2007 recently held in Sydney. Since commencing TPM
3
in May 2004, they have transformed their plant, transformed their
people and transformed their processes with impressive results
including
50% reduction in overall Maintenance Costs along with achieving
517 days accident free as at the time of their verification audit in May 2007.

Three One-Day Pillars
course. The lead presenter was Keith Saul, CTPM Australasia's General
Manager Operations. Keith was assisted by myself (Anthony Burt CTPM
Australasia Managing Navigator New Zealand). For those of you who don't
know, the Wanganui site produces Whiskas and Pedigree pet food pouches
mainly for the New Zealand and Australian markets. The Mars Petcare
site started their journey over 12 months ago in July 2006. After a
dash to the airport and bundling ourselves onto a plane I asked Keith a
few questions about the course and here is his reply.

3-Australasian
Lean Learning Group Network Meeting (LGNM). The meeting theme was
Equipment Competent Operators and was attended by delegates
representing Amcor Packaging, Coca Cola Amatil, Coopers Brewery,
Holden, Numetric Manufacturing, Tip Top Bakeries, & Trident
Plastics.

Coordinator, Iain Snelling, Production Manager - Juken New Zealand
Triboard Mill, understands the challenges involved in implementing a
continuous improvement methodology such as TPM. By implementing TPM
3, the Triboard Mill has increased OEE to 80%, reduced downtime by 18% and has also achieved a 100% customer delivery rate.

"It won't happen overnight, but it will happen"
At the end of cycle one, an operator commented, "TPM3 has
been good for me, people are finally listening". At the end of cycle
two, another operator said, "I've been here for 10 years and TPM3 is a good thing because we've starting to get a few things repaired". Full Story

The TPM3
journey commenced in a classroom environment. It had been a while since
most of the team members found themselves in this scenario, 35 years
for Dave in fact, which as he recalled wasn't the most pleasant
experience. Dave provided great insight about literacy issues in New
Zealand workplaces and challenges faced by employees and companies,
